On Saturday, April 18, at the Omni Hotel in downtown Atlanta, North Atlanta students “glo’d up” for prom. For some, like junior Jose Rodriguez, waking up early and clearing his schedule for the day was a must. For others, like junior Kim Foronda, it was a small, easy-going party before the party. “I invited two friends over and we got ready with music and stuff so we had a lot of fun,” she said.

Both Rodriguez and Foronda arrived at prom around 8:30 p.m. and stayed until the end at 11 p.m.

Upon entering the Omni Hotel ballroom, prom-goers marveled at the dramatic table centerpieces that highlighted the “Tonight We Glow” event theme. The twisting and spiraling balloons had lights within and they sparkled like stars in the night. The splendor of the arrangements was only exceeded by the splendor of the fancy formal gowns and suits spinning and jumping on the dance floor.

The Prom Committee, which was led by English teacher Star Brackin, did so much hard work and exceeded everyone’s expectations by having exquisite table decorations, glow-sticks for the crowd, and even a beautiful ice sculpture.

With the music and the glowing event, everyone had a fantastic time. “Being with my friends and then having a night where everyone dressed formally and got along was such a nice experience,” said Rodriguez.

And when the clock struck 11, the evening’s fun did not end there. For many, the best memories happened afterwards, at after-parties and the at post-prom Waffle House visits. When asked what her favorite part of the night was, Foronda said, “Waffle House after prom, because it was fun with my friends.”

North Atlanta’s 2015 prom lived up to – and exceeded – expectations. For all who attended, it was a night to remember. “There are many dances in life that are really important and prom is definitely on the list,” Rodriguez said.
