Baseball Team Waxes the Competition at Dunwoody Fall Ball Tournament

After a bruising football season, Warrior sports fans are (justifiably) looking for hope. And that hope came in the form of a Fall Ball Playoff Tournament that was held at Dunwoody High school.

The NAHS fall ball team won all three of their fall series playoff games defeating Stephenson, Dunwoody White team and Dunwoody Red team. The winning scores were 9 to 8, 2 to 1 and 11 to 1, respectively. Seniors Will Johnson, Matthew Church, Jake Johnson, Deven Walden, Hugh Fitzgibbons and Brandon Ector helped the team buckle down and focus on attaining the win to fuel the squad to an early championship game.

Thanks to the three consecutive wins, the team made it to the Fall Ball championship for the first time in North Atlanta Baseball history. In the playoff game that qualified them for the championship, the Warriors obliterated Dunwoody Red by a score of 11 to 1. It was in the fifth inning that Warriors started to pull away with a 5-run onslaught. Starting pitcher Jack Ferguson, a freshman, was confidently backed by an unflinching defense.

A combination of Warrior pitchers overpowered the opposition and only allowed a smattering of hits throughout the game. The hapless Dunwoody Red had no answer for the North Atlanta forces and the game was eventually mercy ruled to an early conclusion. “It was a great team effort and this win verified our confidence about the great season we have ahead of us. We played as a team and we got the win and in the end, that’s all that matters,” said Will Johnson, an outfielder and a second baseman. .

Early season success for the Warrior baseball team has only whetted its appetite for more victories and more trophy hardware. They fell short on Nov. 12 against the Westlake Lions and lost 6 to 5 in extra innings. But that hotly contested loss only proves that the team has a winning spirit it will carry into the spring campaign.
