Hoop Dreams: A strong class of returning veterans along with the playmaking wizardry of senior Messiah Thompson is setting up the Warriors varsity basketball team for a strong 2018-19 campaign.

With many players returning from last year’s Elite Eight team, the Warrior boys basketball team has a high chance of having another exciting season. The team has started exhibition play with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, including a huge win over region rival, Johns Creek on November 27. As the Warriors rolled over their region competition last year with a record of 12 and 5, many teams are looking for their revenge this season. However, the Warriors are in good hands to continue their success from last year with these five key players leading the team:

Messiah Thompson: senior, guard

The quick playmaker is picking up where he left off last season, as he continues to perform in all areas of the game. As a three-year starter, he makes an impact every time he steps on the floor. He is a feisty defender who is willing and able to pick up his man from anywhere on the court. On the offensive end, he is a deft passer who can score from any range. Don’t take your eyes off of him or else you’ll miss one of his many electric plays.

Joshua Johnson: senior, forward

This athletic big plays a huge role in the Warriors game plan on both sides of the ball. Starting for his second year, Johnson’s experience has already shown to have an impact. He is a strong defender who can guard multiple positions. His strength allows him to stop big men from dominating the paint, while his agility allows him to pick up shifty guards. When it comes to offense, Johnson is electrifying as he plays above the rim.

Andrew Robinson: senior, forward

This glass cleaning big is entering his second season at North Atlanta, as he looks to improve his outstanding numbers from last year. He runs the floor well, allowing the Warriors to be very effective on the fastbreak. Robinson plays well in the post, as he is able to dominate the glass and throw down some thrilling dunks. Robinson is a key part of the Warriors’ fierce attack.

Sam Jennings: senior, guard

Being a knockdown shooter, Jennings completes the Warriors’ offense. Jennings is able to hit shots from all over the floor, making the paint more open for the Warriors to attack. His length allows him to make big plays on the defensive side of the ball by denying the passing lanes or pick-pocketing his opponent. He is surely one player to watch this season.

Michael Ashley: senior, forward

This shot-blocking big man owns the paint, and he will deny anyone who tries to come in it. His blocks and forced turnovers allow the Warriors to have many fast break opportunities. He plays a large roll on offense as he is a pick and roll maestro who is a vacuum for offensive boards. His physical play leads to many chances at the free-throw line, where he knocks them down with ease.

With North Atlanta’s season gearing up, many fans are hungry to avenge the heartbreak of last year. Overall, athleticism and experience are key qualities of this team. Due to this, 2018 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Dubs.
