The Mind of an Artistic and Thoughtful Warrior
The senior class has many standout students and one of them is Tyler Nicholson. He excels in the art room and has a creative mind that’s noted by his teachers. “Tyler is an incredibly unique minded young man,” said art teacher Natalie Brandhorst.
Nicholson’s creativity is inspired by both the artists he models his work after, and by his art teachers. He takes several AP art classes, including ceramics, 3-D design and 2-D design, and has taken classes from both Brandhorst and Ms. Kim Landers. Teachers say his artwork is typically some of the strongest in his classes. In the hallways, this free-spirited senior is known for his Grateful Dead t-shirts, Vans sneakers, and his ever-present shorts.
In ceramics class, Nicholson creates sophisticated and intricate pieces. “I believe that I am a unique person, but in some ways everyone is unique. Nobody is really the same, and this makes everyone their own kind of person,” he said.
This quote says a lot about his worldview. Nicholson thinks of each person as a unique individual and treats each one that way. His ceramic pieces are abstract and representational and they include nesting pots, spoons and a bird house.
Nicholson is just like any other regular kid. He hangs out with friends and struggles with boring classes. The thing that is most noteworthy about him is his creative mindset. “I feel that I am not a normal kid. Most kids want to be successful to make money, but my main focus is happiness,” he said.
Nicholson does not plan on pursuing art as a career but rather will do it as a side vocation. He plans on attending Georgia Southern University and majoring in business. “I always will continue doing art,” he said. “It’s a fun hobby that I won’t drop. I see myself doing art into my adult life.”
