With the class of 2025 nearing the final weeks of their highschool careers, seniors are coming to terms with what their future will look like. For some, an important decision will soon be made: where will they spend the next four years of their lives? It comes as no surprise that an overwhelming amount of commits are headed to in-state universities Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia.
112 were accepted to UGA and 45 accepted to Georgia Tech – 59% and 37% acceptance rates respectively. Those rates are miles above the schools normal acceptance rates, and reflects the attraction that North Atlanta gives to top state universities. North Atlanta has a few characteristics that give students unique opportunities to show off, such as the IB program, course rigor selection, and our massive student population. Being a successful highschooler at North Atlanta takes many different shapes, and top colleges like UGA and GT have taken note of this.
North Atlanta has only progressed in academic rigor since it moved to its current location. With the student population on a steady growth path, new resources being introduced every day, and increased motivation to prepare students for college and beyond, North Atlanta is on a path of intense growth. “The level of support we can offer to students is inherently less than some private schools,” said College and Career Center (CCC) advisor Jennifer Anderson. “I think highly-selective colleges like to know that our kids have to figure out their own goals and paths forward.”
For the seniors, these schools are great choices for college because of the scholarship opportunities and already forged connections in the state. The Hope and Zell-Miller scholarships, offered at both universities under certain conditions, are a great way for students to go to college for far less money than an out of state college. It’s also an added bonus that the students are familiar with the colleges due to their closer proximity. CCC representative Anderson said, “As flagship schools and top of the line education systems, UGA and GT are often on the top of many of our kids lists.”
As the final commits come rolling in, and seniors enjoy the last few months of high school, North Atlanta is sure to miss the class of 2025. Congratulations UGA and GT commits!
