The Georgia Tech Stamps President’s Scholarship (SPS) is the most prestigious merit-based scholarship at one of the nation’s most distinguished universities. Of North Atlanta’s 2025 class, 37% of 123 applicants were admitted, making GT a popular, yet competitive post-secondary goal amongst seniors. This year, however, not only was senior Brooks Allen a part of this admitted cohort, but also a deserving recipient of the honorable GT President’s Scholarship.
Of the admitted incoming class, only the top one percent are chosen for SPS, reflecting its highly selective nature. Ideal candidates for the program demonstrate exceptional academic performance, strong leadership potential, and an instinctive passion for learning. Those accepted receive a full-ride scholarship covering tuition and all expenses, $12,000 of enrichment funding, exclusive mentoring services, priority housing, and more. Additionally, SPS enriches scholars beyond the classroom through the annual Tech Trek and Academic Search for Knowledge (ASK) Expeditions to local and international destinations alongside their SPS peers. ‘’I’m looking forward to meeting the other scholars in Alaska this summer!’’ said Allen.
The journey began in January when Allen and roughly 450 other seniors admitted through early action were notified of their status as semifinalists for SPS. From there, he successfully completed the semifinalist virtual interview and procured a finalist position. To assess finalists beyond their application, all were invited to participate in Stamps Scholars Weekend, held on April 4th and 5th, for the final phase of the selection process. Throughout the weekend, Allen was exposed to the daily inner workings of college life at GT while attending social events and campus tours, guided by his host scholar, Nate Hayes. Finalists were also separated by major and taken to each department to sit in on classes and meet professors. ‘’It was a great experience,’’ he said. ‘’I got to see what a typical day looks like for a biology major.’’
Allen’s intentions to pursue a biology pathway began in elementary school to support his aspirations of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Through SPS, he will have access to exclusive resources and amenities to sponsor his endeavors in the field. The SPS network of alumni and renowned professors will provide Allen with valuable connections for career insight and mentorship possibilities. Additionally, he plans to allocate his enrichment funds toward studying the biology of the Great Barrier Reef in New Zealand and Australia. Allen’s IB Literature teacher, Erica Hiers is excited to see where his SPS journey leads him. ‘’Brooks is a very conscientious, hard-working student.’’ said Hiers. ‘’He has brought one hundred percent and more to my class every day this year.’’
Acquiring the Georgia Tech Stamps President’s Scholarship has marked a significant milestone for Allen and his future career in biology. His remarkable achievement is widely celebrated among the class of 2025 community and is a testament to the exceptional group of scholars at NAHS. Accomplished scholar. Prodigious athlete. Talented Musician. And for the next four years, will bear the title: Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket.
