Imagine going to work every single day, always punctual, consistently motivated and successful, but you haven’t gotten paid in 10 months. This is an adults worst nightmare. Well, this is how the students at North Atlanta High School feel. They wake up early to go to school each day, go to their classes, and turn in their assignments, yet they are not being given the grade that they earned and deserve.
Teachers around the building (not all, but a lot) have started to lack in the department of grading assignments. This creates an awkward vibe between the students and their teacher. Some students would never want to stand up to a teacher and come off as disrespectful, but there are also students who would advocate and risk coming off as rude. However, there are the perfect students in between those two ends of the spectrum, students that advocate politely and calmly for their grades to be entered in IC. Honestly, it is very frustrating. I am very respectful to my teachers and appreciate everything that they do, but when they do not grade our assignments or update Infinite Campus, it is extremely stressful for both of us. When things are not in our control anymore and they are not being handled properly, it can give people major stress.
If someone asked what the reason is for teachers not updating grades while posting loads of work, the answer would be nothing. There is no reason for it. However, this is not every teacher. Mostly all of the teachers here do a great job, but there are still the few that take a massive toll on the success of their students.
Students in this school already have enough work throughout the school days between A days and B days. However, some teachers do not seem to notice this, or maybe they just don’t care. Assigning more assignments on top of more and more projects and tests, leads students to question the point. The main point being that these few teachers do not update the gradebook. Why assign this much work and not grade it, leading to damages to one’s grade. I do feel for the teachers, they also have tremendous loads of work, but why assign so many assignments to your students if you are unable to grade them on time? This is just a lose-lose situation. The students become frazzled and stressed, while the teachers get bombarded with comments.
Maybe not every student cares about this, but it strains the teacher-student relationship as well. We should all work together in unison. The teacher assigns the work, the student completes the work, and the teacher grades it in Infinite Campus- and everyone lives happily ever after.
