Here at North Atlanta, excellence doesn’t belong to just one field or court; it’s anywhere the Dubs compete to win. The North Atlanta Warriors strive for nothing short of success and domination, especially for student-athletes. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the grind for warriors in the fall never stops. This week, two outstanding athletes were recognized by their coaches for their dedication, performance, and leadership.
Weston Goodman, a junior, transferred to NAHS just last year and has already become a driving force on the football field. As quarterback, he commands the field with determination and confidence, keeping his team composed under pressure. In the most recent game, the Dubs played Hebron Christian Academy, and although they lost, Goodman felt that the overall game was phenomenal. When needing two more points to make it a one-score game, Goodman intended to pass, but when the opportunity never arose, he took the ball, ran with it, and managed to flip over an opposing player. A tough game, Goodman pushed through, persevering through every tackle for his team. Athlete of the week is a title given to those who have true grit and a persistent positive attitude, a perfect match for Goodman’s impression on the team. “You’re supposed to have a good time playing, so work hard, train hard, and just enjoy it while you have it!,” said Goodman.
For the Lady Dubs, Eleni Karagiannis, also a junior, has made a grand impact on the court so far. As the libero, she’s the backbone of her team with quick reflexes, strong instincts, and fearlessness. Karagiannis’s hustle is what rallies the team and inspires others. Strong serves, daring dives, and consistent defensive plays are her strong suit; however, it isn’t just her stats that earned her Athlete of the Week. Karagiannis sets an example with her fierce work ethic and motivating approach towards her teammates. Leading with energy and communication, her performance on and off the court has showcased the role of libero and Athlete of the Week. “Setting the tone on the court is crucial; no matter how you’re playing, you must lift others to keep the energy positive,” said Karagiannis.
Both athletes were carefully chosen by their coaches and praised by their teammates, who emphasized their role on the teams and highlighted their qualities that earned them Athlete of the Week. For Goodman, teammate Josh McCullough referenced his exceptional skill, playing with not only strength, but a high game IQ. Goodman “works the pocket,” throws for 200 yards, and delivers brilliant plays. He is reliable on and off the field, and is also known for his encouraging attitude. For Karagiannis, her expertise is valuably noted by her coaches. Leading the team in digs per set, being second in receptions, and her contribution at the service line, she certainly transforms the team’s defense. “Her consistency and leadership on the court make her an easy choice for Athlete of the Week,” said varsity coach Samantha Johnston.
This week’s Athlete of the Week, Weston Goodman and Eleni Karagiannis, have exemplified the true definition of what it means to be a warrior, demonstrating dedication, skill, and leadership. Their significant contributions both on and off the courts and field have inspired teammates with their hard work and radiant outlooks. Goodman and Karagiannis’s performance set a high standard for all Warriors to follow.
