It is no secret that Ticketmaster is to blame for the consistent fights over limited ticket sales. Many of the most popular concerts are attended by some lucky Dubs at North. They arrive at school the next day wearing concert merch and presenting proud concert photos to their friends. Students on social media scroll through stories of their friends at concerts the night before. Whether it is the most popular artist at the time or a small band, many students will never pass up the opportunity to purchase tickets to see their favorite singer with their friends. But it is not the music itself that makes concerts so special. It’s the energy, costumes, and overall production that produce a truly memorable concert.
The environment of concerts plays a large role in the audience’s experience. A poorly done show and a bad audience will reduce the enjoyment of a concert fast, no matter how good the artist’s music is. Sophomore Grace Peterson, a serious concert connoisseur, believes that this is the number one thing that can make or break a concert. “My favorite thing is the environment. I love being in a good section and being next to someone who is seeing their favorite artist,” she said. “It can be a terrible performance, but the section and the people are what make it fun”.
Of course, there are some artists who present a good concert no matter what. Many students love going to see performers who have a unique presence onstage. An artist’s performance quality often transfers to the audience. Thus, creating a mutual concert experience that is both memorable to the singer and the crowd. The originality of an artist’s concert plays a key role in a remarkable show. Freshman Roman Pace has enjoyed concerts from The Weekend to Playboi Carti. “My favorite concert would be The Weekend. I feel like overall, his singing is definitely a unique style, and it definitely showed in the concert,” he said.
Teenagers don’t just go to concerts for the music. They go for the unforgettable memories that come along with the community, excitement, and aesthetic Instagram stories. They leave with the feeling of a post-concert high, specifically if the concert’s production, energy, and artist created a unique personal experience. Although some dubs drag themselves to school exhausted and bleary-eyed the next day, many of them won’t forget the exhilarating experience, even if their ears are still ringing from the loud music. The show may only last a couple of hours, but the memories created before, during, and after the show will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
