Being the only senior on a team full of underclassmen might seem like a challenge, but senior Eve Heller doesn’t mind it at all. She has outlasted the rest of the softball players in the class of 2026, who slowly peeled away from the program. With her final year left on the team, she’s excited to leave her mark and share her wisdom with the next generation of Dubs.
Throughout all four years of high school, things happen, friends change, classes switch, but for Heller, one thing stayed constant: her love for softball. Being on the varsity softball team all four years of high school is no walk in the park, but her passion runs deep. She has grown and changed alongside her teammates over the years and learned many lessons along the way. “My favorite moment so far has been making it to super regionals my freshman and sophomore year, and being first in the region,” Heller said.
When she first joined the varsity roster in 2022, her freshman year, she wasn’t alone. But as the seasons passed, Heller became the last one standing from her class. She is now the team captain and the sole senior, and with that, she has embraced leadership and responsibility. “Being the only senior is a bit hard at times because I have to lead everyone,” Heller said. “But it’s nice because I get to teach the incoming Dubs what I’ve learned over the years.”
Heller loves the sport so much that she’s always willing to go after what she wants and leave it all out on the field. Over the years, she has brought versatility to the team, having played a variety of different positions and being eager to play regardless of the situation. With her leadership comes advice, and one lesson stands above all for her. “Don’t wait around for someone to tell you what to do,” Heller said. “If you want something, go after it.”
Looking ahead, Heller is confident she’s leaving her beloved team in good hands after she graduates. She believes the team will still function well without her as they’ve built a good foundation of juniors and underclassmen. Still, saying goodbye won’t be easy. “I can’t believe I have to consider times when this will all be gone,” Heller said. “But it’s been such a great run and I can’t wait to finish it the right way.”
As she heads into her last season, Heller’s legacy is already set, not just in wins and stats, but in the example she leads for her teammates to follow. The end of her high school career may be bittersweet, but her impact on North Atlanta softball will carry on long after her final game.
