Friday night lights showcase the excellence of the North Atlanta football team every season, but they especially when they play on home turf. Each Friday, Henderson Stadium in downtown Atlanta awaits the Dubs, ready to fill the stands and the field. What makes home games so special is the sea of students flooding the stands with spirit, cheers, and a designated costume for the theme. However, this year, the Dubs only have three chances to experience this energy, due to North Atlanta only having three scheduled home games.
Warzone, the chaotic, energy-packed student section, brings students together to celebrate their Dub pride. Kids come dressed head-to-toe in theme, whether it’s tropical, ski, or camo themed. Chanting and cheering for the team playing below is what creates the loving community within Henderson Stadium. With limited opportunities, the student section is rallying like never before to keep Friday night lights electric. Warzone leader Roddey Bird is determined to make every moment count, encouraging everyone to bring the noise! “We’ve made new cheers and signs to hang up to get people hype,” said Bird.
The distance of the games has been a challenge for many here at North Atlanta High School. While they wish they could join in on the fun, it is difficult to make the drive, whether licensed or not. Sophomore Ellery Brannen is devastated by the lack of games on Warrior territory. For Brannen, these games have her buzzing with excitement. Students plan their nights by discussing what to wear, where to eat, and how they will show their spirit days in advance, which is what makes FNL so anticipated! “I plan all week with my friends to have the best night possible in the stands!” said Brannen.
For the seniors, three home games are not a setback. Senior Maddie Fluke, a devoted member of North Atlanta Warzone since her freshman year, is ready to take on the traveling. As the Class of 2026’s final year, many will not miss a chance to cheer on the Dubs. Fluke and her friends’ dedication has proved to many that true Dubs spirit should not be tied to location, but instead to showing up and bringing the energy. “The Warriors don’t quit, and neither does Warzone,” said Fluke.
Three home games should not silence the spirit of the student section, but instead turn up the volume and pump up the crowd. Nothing can stop the Dubs, and the students will make sure of that. The dedication of fans will light up the stands and bring the spirit!
