Although the Warriors are only three games into the 2025-26 season, they have already felt every emotion football can deliver – heartbreak, dominance, and the sting of an overtime loss. Currently, the Dubs stand 1-2, but they were two plays away from a flawless 3-0 start. As region play looms, the Dubs are more than ready to begin region play.
The Dubs kicked off the 2025 season against Region 2A’s top-ranked Hebron Christian Academy. Hebron struck early, with two first-half touchdowns, but the Dubs battled back as tight-end Josh McCullough hauled in a five-yard touchdown from Weston Goodman to make the score 14-7 at half. Hebron remained in control throughout the 3rd quarter, extending their lead to 23-7. But the Warrior offense came alive in the fourth quarter. Bryce Little scored an 8-yard rushing touchdown, and Goodman connected with McCullough for another touchdown. Trailing 22-29 with two minutes to go, the Warriors drove 75 yards to the Hebron 1-yard line, but a miscommunication on the handoff to Little led to a fumble recovered by Hebron. “It was a tough game to lose… but I think it motivated us to move forward and come closer as a team,” said Goodman.
A week later, the Dubs unleashed all that frustration on the Paulding County Patriots in a 38-6 blowout. The offense was unstoppable: Goodman passed for 144 yards and two touchdowns, Little ran for 138 yards and scored twice, and wideout Jack Ellenburg caught two passes for 114 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown. However, the defense was not to be outdone. They collected three sacks, one interception, and a 52-yard pick-six courtesy of freshman Adyn Jackson. Junior linebacker Quinn Herring attributes this win to the Dubs’ raw talent. “We have great athletes and playmakers on both sides of the ball,” said Herring.
The Warriors’ third test, against the Wheeler Wildcats, may have been their wildest game yet. The Dubs started hot, scoring 28 points in the first half, highlighted by an incredible one-handed catch from McCullough and a beautiful jump-ball touchdown to Ellenburg. They led 28-21 at halftime, but the offense cooled off and was held scoreless in the second half. The defense kept the Warriors in it, but with eight seconds left in the game, Wheeler scored a game-tying touchdown, sending the game into overtime. The Wildcats got the ball first and scored, but the Warriors responded with a quick touchdown of their own and decided to go for two. Goodman dropped back, scanned the field, and fired the ball into the endzone, only to be intercepted by Wheeler. “It was a tough loss as a team, but we will be back for region play,” said McCullough.
The Warriors have already experienced the highs and lows of a full season in just three games. They’ve battled elite competition, delivered a dominant win, and endured an overtime heartbreak. Now, the Dubs are hungry and ready to prove themselves in region play.
