The dubs are back in business, literally. The NAHS DECA Club has begun in full spring. The club went to its first field trip to the deck of fall rally held at Six Flags Over Georgia. The annual DECA Fall Rally introduces the season with the perfect mix of competition, leadership, and fun.
At the beginning of each year, DECA members from all across Georgia meet together to mark the start of the new season. The Dubs showed up to Six Flags ready for the day ahead. Everyone attending was required to participate in at least one competition. Most opted for the multiple choice test on Georgia DECA, including sophomore Mary Finger. This exam didn’t take long but benefited members by helping them become used to the new testing environment. “It was a great way to prepare for what DECA competitions will be like later this year,” said Finger.
After the exam, sophomore students, Cannon Adams, Jean-Luc Khayat, and Riley Sipe, gathered to compete in one of the day’s main events : the Selling Six Flags challenge. In this event, teams created a short pitch to market the amusement park to customers, putting their creativity and business skills to the test. North Atlanta’s team came out on top, winning first place in the competition and bringing pride to the Dubs. “Winning the Selling Six Flags competition made all our hard work pay off,” said Khayat.
Once all of the competitions were over, the dubs were let loose in the park. Students would run from one ride to the next to ensure that they covered them all. The DECA club members also viewed this trip as a bonding experience allowing them to grow closer to their new teammates, which was especially important for sophomore Ella Carhart. The long lines allowed everyone to learn more about each other as they waited together. “The rides were so much fun, and it was great to spend time with everyone outside of school,” said Carhart.
This trip made members even more excited for the upcoming Fall Leadership Development Conference. After spending an amazing day together the DECA team members have gotten a feel for the club. With the next event already planned the team has begun preparation and is becoming excited for the upcoming conference. As the buses headed back to North Atlanta after the fun was over, students were covered in powdered sugar from funnel cakes as well as hands filled with small prizes won along the way. DECA Dubs are looking forward to the season ahead after having a strong start at the Fall Rally.
