As Weston Goodman takes his spot on the field under the bright Friday night lights, the roar of the crowd begins to fade as he takes his position under center. It’s his first season as North Atlanta High School’s starting quarterback for the football team, but you wouldn’t know it by the way he leads his team and carries himself with confidence. Goodman always takes the field with a smile on his face and with the enthusiasm of someone carrying out their dream.
Goodman’s journey to North Atlanta, although successful, wasn’t a straight line. Transferring here halfway through his sophomore year from Blessed Trinity, he faced a big adjustment. New classes, new teammates, and a much bigger school environment aren’t easy for anybody, but like he does with football, Goodman confidently faced the challenge. Goodman is now a junior at North Atlanta and has earned his spot as the starting quarterback for the football team. “I definitely don’t regret transferring,” said Goodman. “It was a big change at first, but I’ve adjusted well thanks to my friends and, of course, football.”
Now, as a team captain and face of the offense, Goodman knows what it means to carry leadership and responsibility on and off the field. His teammates look up to him not just for his skill but for his commitment and character. Goodman leads by example and understands that being a captain is more than just wearing a title; it’s about setting an example. It’s about earning trust and keeping team morale high no matter the score. And when the games are on the line, Goodman’s faith always keeps him grounded. “Being a captain is an honor, and I look at football as a blessing every day; that’s what keeps me calm under pressure,” he said.
Even though he is leading the Warriors right now, Goodman always has the future on his mind and is working toward it. He wants to play in one of the Power 4 conferences or the Ivy League and eventually hopes his journey leads him to the NFL, so look out for the name Weston Goodman in the big leagues. His older brother plays Division 1 football at the University of Cincinnati, and he wouldn’t mind following in his footsteps. “Weston’s effort and commitment always show when he’s on the field”, senior Jack Ellenburg said. “He definitely has what it takes to get to the next level.”
With drive, gratitude, and genuine love for the game, Goodman embodies the kind of leader every team hopes for. So keep your eye on him; his story is one that’s still being written, and the next chapter looks very bright.
