Football games are won and lost in the trenches, the place where offensive and defensive linemen battle every snap to control the line of scrimmage. While most fans cheer for long touchdowns or highlight reel interceptions, real football fans know that the game is decided by the players who do the dirty work up front. And no one does it better than junior defensive lineman Sebastian Miles.
Miles has become a dominant force on defense for the warriors, known for his explosive first step, strength, and relentless motor. He consistently causes chaos in the backfield, making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks and running backs alike. Miles started as a sophomore where he racked up over 20 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and had an insane one handed interception. His performance hasn’t gone unnoticed, Miles already holds multiple Division I offers from schools such as Georgia Tech, Liberty, Appalachian State, and UConn. “Not only does his hard work show through his achievements,” senior running back Cayden Edwards said. “But when he meets me in person, I can tell what he has been up to.”
As Miles began his junior campaign he knew he needed to step up and help lead the defense. Through 7 games he has already matched his sophomore season stats, putting up 20 tackles and also adding 3 sacks to the stat sheet. Miles has been nothing short of dominant in the trenches, but he also has stepped up as a leader and captain. The defensive line coach for the dubs, Coach Madden, speaks very highly of Miles and his character. “Whether it’s in practice or in the game, Sebastian holds his teammates accountable,” he said. “He wants everybody to play their hardest every snap,” he said.
Not only does Miles take pride in mentoring younger players, encouraging his teammates, and working as hard as he can every day, he also stays focused in the classroom where he has all A’s and B’s. His work ethic in the classroom mirrors his focus on the field, balancing athletics and academics with determination. “Playing football in college is very important to me, but succeeding in the classroom is just as important,” he said.
Although Miles has already had major success in his career, he still has some lofty goals that he hopes to accomplish. Not only does he hope to play football at a big time SEC school and eventually go pro, he also wants to graduate from college with a degree. With another year ahead and more college attention on the horizon, one thing is clear, Miles is just getting started. His dominance, leadership, and love for the game make him a cornerstone of the Warriors defense and a name that will be remembered long after the final whistle blows.
