In the Dubs start to the season, a few players have stood out. One fan favorite is Cayden Edwards or better known to the Dubs as ‘C5.’ In a two running back system, Edwards has shined, dropping major stat lines and carrying the Warriors to wins in many key games. This has not come from luck, Edwards has earned his stripes and all the fame he is building around campus. Edwards has been the fuel of the fire in the offense this season and has played a pivotal role.
Edwards’ offseason was full of hard work and long hours. He was constantly doing running back training and working on his agility. These training sessions were long and tiring but Edwards knew they would pay off. Hills were his best friend as he used them primarily to increase his speed. Speed and agility are sometimes overlooked for a tough runner like Edwards, but he understands that they are key aspects into becoming an elite athlete. “I feel much more explosive this year,” said Edwards. “When I hit that hole, I feel electric.”
Edwards so far in the season has put up an amazing stat line. Through seven games, Edwards has put up 365 rushing yards on 56 carries. Edwards is averaging 6.5 yards per carry and dominating opponents on the field. He has rushed for five touchdowns and many have been in key moments. In the win againstSouth Forsyth, Edwards broke free for a major touchdown to keep the Dubs in front and the student section alive. “The touchdowns are just flowing,” said Edwards. “My goal is to end up in that box after every run.”
All of the hard work Edwards is putting in is not for nothing, his dream is to go play in college. He has three offers: two division one offers and one division two offer. The two D-1 offers are Southern Miss and Tennessee State, while the D-2 offer is Edwards Waters University. These offers have only helped Edwards as he has shined since receiving them. Still, until he has committed to a college and put up his final stat line, Edwards will be continuing to chase his dream. “His work ethic keeps the team going during the long games,” said Weston Goodman.
Edwards has been the explosion that the offense has needed this season to win games. They have relied on him in big moments to break tackles, get yards, and score touchdowns when the Dubs need it most.
