Seniors Gin Up the Energy to Combat Senior-Itis

Is it hard to believe that we just want to relax our last year of high school? We are itching to finish this last stretch in the marathon we’ve been running since elementary school. Since we’re so ready to get out of school, it would seem likely that we would generate all the required energy to combat senior-itis. But alas, this is not the case. Since we’ve done so much work in our years of high school, we would like a year to just kick back and relax. There’s nothing wrong with taking break is there? Doesn’t everyone need a break from time to time?

Now sometimes the breaks we take are slightly drastic, and when we do so our grades begin to slip. When this happens, this is the moment for us to try to fight senior-it is. Colleges still look at our transcripts when we graduate, so even though it is good to take a break, the extra effort to finish our last year of high school should still be taken. This means that we have to find ways to combat senior-itis. Although we enjoy the feeling of senior-itis, we know it puts a barrier between us and our long-desired for graduation.

Senior-itis is ultimately inevitable. When we were juniors we always said that we wouldn’t get senior-itis, but it’s seemingly inevitable. Senior-itis is so easy to catch because seniors are usually excited to move onto the next stage of their life. We’re over the “high school” life and are anxiously waiting for the freedom college gives us. Senior-itis isn’t necessarily our fault, its just part of every senior experience.

So is it wrong to want a break? No, it’s not. Is it wrong to fall off of your duties while taking this break? It is. But luckily, there’s room for recovery. So as we come to a close in our high school years and approach our next set of years, we constantly put up a fight against senior-itis. So Senior-itis is our battle, the one we wage this whole school year. But once we reach that graduation stage and take our place as graduating seniors in the Class of 2015, we’ll know this was one battle worth taking on and winning.
