Water Warriors are ready for the tough season ahead of them.

Most people would not even consider jumping in a pool in the winter months. However, the North Atlanta Swim and Dive Team has been in the pool day in and day out since October.

Led by Coach Star Brackin, a language arts teacher at North Atlanta, the swim and dive team are in position to have one of their best seasons yet. Starting in September, the team began with dry workouts out on the track to work on conditioning. In October, the wet practices began and they hit the pool at the Chastain Park Pool for the first time. Accompanied with morning workouts in the weight room, they have daily afternoon practices, even over the weekend. The goals for the season are to place win the APS Championships, qualify more individuals and relays for state, and to place on the podium for the state tournament. All this hard work and dedication combined with a very experienced team might just be the formula to a very successful season.

The season has already gotten off to a great start. In their first meet, the Water Warriors placed third in both boys and girls overall out of 15 teams. The relay teams are already at state time in their first meet, which says great things for the future. “The fact that our team already has individual and relay cuts for state shows that we are already off to a great start for a season better than we have ever had,” said junior Lindsey Reeves.

Team leaders and coaches have seen that this year’s Water Warriors are both experienced and well rounded. “Overall, our team looks really good this year,” said senior Claudia Onley. “I can see it being a good season for both boys and girls and setting a lot of school records.”

The Water Warriors are poised for an exceptional season. Be ready for them to make a splash.
