The Mysterious Warrior Knight in Our Midst

What best represents the Warrior Spirit the most at North Atlanta? Would it be Maximus, the new mascot? Maybe it’s Mr. Whitman, who makes announcements in the afternoon reminding us that “Somos Guerreros.” But perhaps the embodiment of Warrior Pride is something you’ve seen before – maybe a thousand times – but never really noticed.

The true example of Warrior Pride might just be the mysterious Warrior Knight who inhabits a corner in the Media Center. Maybe you’ve seen him before or maybe you haven’t. But if you’ve been to the Media Center this school year or last, this mysterious clad-in-faux-iron warrior has seen you. As seemingly a permanent fixture as he appears to be, the Warrior Knight is actually sitting – or standing – in storage. He is property of Sheila Howard, the media specialist who retired last year after 20 years of service to the school.

“Sheila was supposed to come back to get it but she hasn’t had a chance to do so yet,” said Lori McCall, media specialist.

The majority of students who’ve noticed the mysterious Warrior knight have reckoned it a worthy token of school pride, one deserving a lasting place in our midst. “I didn’t know that Ms. Howard owned the figure, I thought it was just another prop meant to improve school spirit,” said English teacher Angela Hall.

Others give the mysterious Warrior Knight a similar endorsement. “He represents the North Atlanta Warriors well,” said media specialist Felicia Stewart.

I noticed the mysterious Warrior knight last year while taking a much-deserved study break in the media center. In viewing him, I immediately became interested in his origins. Was he from some musty collection of medieval relics? Was the coat of armor worn by some brave knight who fell in glorious battle? (Likely not: if you knock on the thing and you’ll see the “armor” is really plastic.”)

Ah well. He’s still a cool fixture, this mysterious Warrior Knight. He doesn’t move around like mascot Maximus, but he has his place – in the corner, being ever so mysterious. It all goes to show you: There’s a story behind every knight in shining armor.
