When lunch time rolls around, there’s one question guaranteed to get NAHS students picking sides: Willy’s or Chipotle? Some swear by Willy’s, claiming the queso and endless toppings can never be beat. Others stick to Chipotle, loyal to their classic flavors and controversial portions. From first bite to last, this burrito brawl makes it clear that students have plenty to say about their favorite go-to spot.
For freshman Jacob Finger, Willy’s has always been his go-to spot. From meeting there with big groups of friends to grabbing a quick bite on his own, he believes it can’t be beat. The crowd-favorite queso brings in masses of people after school, along with the casual atmosphere, making it an easy hangout spot. After all, Willy’s has been an Atlanta staple for over thirty years, with a loyal following across the city and beyond. “I’ve been going to Willy’s since I was like two years old,” he said. “It’s always been my favorite and I don’t think Chipotle will ever be able to top it.”
On the other hand, senior Awesome Hankerson believes Chipotle holds the top spot when it comes to Mexican food. He appreciates the consistency and customization Chipotle offers, making every single meal feel carefully tailored to his own taste. Known for their fresh ingredients and world-class chips, Chipotle gives students that reliable, homemade feel everyone’s always looking for. “I think the bowl at Chipotle is a lot more flavorful than Willy’s,” he said. “To me, it feels a lot fresher and I think the pico is so much better.”
With two stellar options when a burrito or bowl craving hits, sophomore Thomas Addaquay has yet to decide which takes the cake. He enjoys the variety and classic options at both restaurants, but he finds it hard to pick a favorite because each has its own strengths. Sometimes he prefers the cheesy, loaded burritos from Willy’s, while other days he craves the lighter bowls from Chipotle. “The burritos are definitely better at Willy’s, but the bowls are so much better at Chipotle,” he said. “I go to both a lot and, honestly, I can never really decide which one is actually my favorite.”
At the end of the day, the Willy’s and Chipotle showdown really comes down to personal taste, and maybe how long someone’s willing to wait in line. Some will stay loyal to their favorites, while others might bounce back and forth, never being able to truly decide. In the end, whether students choose Willy’s or Chipotle, one thing is clear: everyone has their favorite, and a little friendly rivalry just makes every bite all the more satisfying.
