Who wants to wake up early in the morning and be productive before school? Not very many people, but there are a select few at North Atlanta who value their morning routines. While some are stuck dragging their half-asleep bodies out of bed, others have already been up for hours, peacefully taking their time. Whether it’s getting up before sunrise to work out or hitting snooze until the last possible second, every student has a different morning routine.
Most people roll out of bed at 7:00 a.m. and get ready for the school day while feeling groggy and unmotivated. Freshman Owen Kirkland, on the other hand, wakes up at 5:00 a.m. most mornings to work out. He gets up, gets ready quickly, and his dad drives him to Lifetime. Afterward, he takes a shower, changes, and eats a healthy breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon. However, this routine sometimes takes longer than expected, and he ends up running late. His sister, Scarlet Kirkland, is not a fan of his routine because he is always behind schedule. “I am always ready at 7:45, and he is never there,” said Kirkland.
School is already long enough, but having after-school activities, then homework, all while trying to get a decent amount of sleep, is nearly impossible. The only thing getting most people through the week is the promise of caffeine in the morning, just ask Walker McCaleb. The first thing she thinks of when she wakes up is getting some caffeine in her body. She wakes up at 7:00 in the morning, throws on some clothes, and grabs a coffee on the way out the door. Clearly not a morning person, she likes to catch a quick snooze in the car, soaking in every minute of rest. “My favorite part of my morning routine is when I’m asleep,” said McCaleb.
The opposite of a night owl? An early bird—someone who loves to wake up early and spend hours peacefully getting ready without anyone bothering them. That’s Olivia Traylor-Jimenez. She wakes up at 6:00 every morning and takes an hour and a half to get ready. Her routine consists of skincare, makeup, making her bed, and getting dressed in an outfit picked out the night before. “I wish I could spend even more time on my makeup,” said Traylor-Jimenez.
From hitting the gym at 5:00 a.m. to walking out the door barely awake, North Atlanta students each have unique morning routines. Some love taking their time in the morning, while others can barely get out of bed on time. Whatever works for each student, just don’t press snooze too many times.
