From organizing celebrations to spreading positivity, the Peer Leadership class at North is the center of it all. The class, made up of motivated seniors, focuses on building community. This includes two main goals: boosting school spirit and promoting events across campus. Whether it’s coming up with fun ideas for the school, leading a service project, or supporting fellow warriors. Peer Leadership is all about bringing students together in new ways.
Recently, Peer Leadership helped celebrate the girls’ Volleyball team after a run in the state championship. The group organized a school-wide walk-through, where volleyball players made their way through cheering crowds scattered throughout all 11 floors. While the halls echoed with excitement, energy, and support, Peer Leadership was behind the scenes making the magic happen. Senior Katherine Mason, one of the Peer Leaders who helped organize the walk-through, said it best. “The volleyball walk was a really cool opportunity to not only organize but be a part of,” she said. “We went around getting people excited in the hallways and making sure everyone was ready to celebrate the team.”
From sports to spooky fun, Peer Leadership has kept students engaged outside the classroom. Their recent Trunk or Treat event transformed the top of the school parking deck into a Halloween hotspot. It was complete with candy, costumes, and decorated cars, and its sole mission was to allow people to meet new people and enhance North’s community. The event brought students, friends, and family together for an evening of trick or treating, giving back, and time with good company. Sophomore Jordan Lane was one of the students who helped out with the event. “The Trunk or Treat was really well organized because we put so much time into it,” she said. “I enjoyed meeting new people and being able to give back.”
Peer Leadership isn’t just about celebrations, it’s about making a difference. One of their most meaningful projects so far was the No Place For Hate banner signing, where students pledged to promote inclusion, kindness, and respect across the campus. During lunch, they set up a table with markers and other signs for students to commit to making an impact here at NAHS. Senior Miya Bauer believes events like this are what make Peer Leadership so important. “It’s really great that we have something like Peer Leadership to organize events like this,” she said. “No Place For Hate is an important cause, and I’m glad someone is here to give it attention.”
Peer Leadership’s impact goes beyond the events themselves- it’s in the lasting energy they create. Each project leaves behind stronger connections, happier students, and a school that feels closer to being united. From hype filled hallways to heartfelt initiatives, Peer Leadership continues to make North a place where pride and positivity go hand in hand every single day.
