There has recently been a lot of buzz about Steven Spears and Maxwell Sowatzka potentially releasing their first album. The North Atlanta seniors have been a dynamic duo for almost two years now, and consider their music to fall under the “alternative rock” category.

Their upcoming album is expected to have around six to eight songs and come out in the spring, although the official number of songs and release date are both to be determined.

The pair started singing and songwriting together about two years ago, and quickly found they work well together. “Music is something we both thoroughly enjoy,” Spears said, “When we work together something just clicks.”

A main focus for them is to make music that is relatable. “Along with writing about our personal lives, we try to make music people can relate to,” Sowatzka said.

Instead of having an inspiration or a muse to write about, Spears and Sowatzka sometimes use images to depict what they see, and write about that as well. “We look at a picture or something and just write about what we see. We’re not too good at writing based off real inspiration,” Spears said.

Their most popular song yet has been “If Something can go wrong it Will,” which was based off of Murphy’s Law. The law simply states: anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

As their senior year draws to a close, both Maxwell and Steven plan on being involved with music after high school. “Music is something that will always play a big part in my life,” Sowatzka said.
