Flywheel Addiction

Say the word “addiction” and negative things like drugs or alcohol come to mind. But what about positive addictions? What would you think if you heard “flywheel addiction?” Not certain what “flywheel” is? Picture a studio full of bikes, loud music, and loads of people having fun and definitely breaking out in a massive sweat.

Generic spinning classes have obviously been around for a while, but in 2010 a revolution began. The first Flywheel opened in the Flatiron District of New York City, and because of its quick rate of success and customer satisfaction, studios opened across the country. There are three locations in Atlanta and these include studios in Alpharetta, Midtown and Buckhead.

So what makes Flywheel different from other spinning classes? The first thing is performance personalization. A rider at flywheel can adjust his or her bike to whatever level of difficulty desired. On top of that, the instructors make you feel connected and truly push you to your maximum capabilities. It is truly one of the most accomplished feelings to come out of a class thinking: “Wow. I just did that.”

The workout is intense – and very hard – but for those who thrive under the regimen, it’s definitely worth it.

Flywheel Buckhead already has a huge North Atlanta appeal and has changed the lives of many students. “I feel alive after a flywheel class,” sophomore Sarah Webb said. “It’s like an instantaneous rush of endorphins that hits you all at once, and now classes are a part of my daily routine.”

An awesome aspect of Flywheel is your first class is free. After that, it’s $18 a class for students. With Spring break and summer around the corner, flywheel would be great way to get in shape. “Going to this class has become the highlight of my week,” said sophomore Katie Waken. “Who should do this? Anyone who wants to dig deep, get in shape quick and to experience what it sort of feels like to fly. It’s so much fun!”
