North Atlanta Girl’s Soccer Team celebrates after a convincing victory over Camden County.

With a 6-0 victory over Camden County on May 4, The North Atlanta Girl’s Soccer team moved on to the state championship quarterfinals in the 5A division.

The Warriors, region champs in the 7-5A region, will face stiff competition in its next playoff game on Friday, May 6. The Warriors will square off against the Starr’s Mill Panthers at 4 p.m. at Grady Stadium at the corner of Monroe Drive and 10th Street in Midtown Atlanta.

During the Camden County game, North Atlanta scored first. Bonnie Shea, a junior defender, headed the ball in at the 20-minute mark. Other scorers were freshman midfielder Kate Morris, sophomore striker Lizzie Mayfield, freshmen striker Kelley Estis and senior striker and team co-captain Claire Shea, who had two goals.

To get to the state semifinals, the Warriors will have to get by Star’s Mill, a perennial soccer power and the reigning state champion. Team members say they are aware of the challenge ahead of them. “It’s important for us to play to the best of our abilities,” said senior defender Lydia Zemmali. “We always play well under pressure. We’re just hoping we do so against a really tough opponent.”

North Atlanta had a 12-3-1 regular season record and secured its third consecutive region crown during the 2016 campaign.
