The North Atlanta Quiz Bowl team won another victory for the school with an extremely successful series of games at the recent GATA winter tournament on Jan. 28. The varsity team – comprised of Jake Churchill, Ethan Hendrickson, Devon Gates, Ishaan Ghosh, and Quint Gfroerer – had an extremely successful day, which culminated with them making playoffs. After obliterating all the other schools that stood in their way, the team was easily on its way to the top. That is until the final round, where they faced off against Marist High School, one of the strongest teams in the region.

The challenge was tough with North Atlanta losing for the vast majority of the game, however in a miraculous display of determination, they were able to bring the game to a tiebreaker in the final question. It was a sudden death round so whoever answered first would be the one to bring home the gold, then a sharp buzz sounded through the air, and it was from North Atlanta. The team had won the final round of the tournament winning first place! And to the victor in the battle of minds goes the spoils which included not only the honor of winning first place at such a prestigious tournament, but also the qualifications to move onto the national tournament where they will face off against the best schools from all around the country.

The team was extremely excited about the win. Sophomore Devon Gates described their victory as extremely rewarding. “There were a lot of fast buzzers, tough competition, and interesting subjects,” she said.

Quint Gfroerer echoed Devon’s sentiments: “It was a lot of fun and truly is a battle of wits,” he said

With such a successful tournament hopefully the Warriors will do just as well at the nationals where they stakes are higher, the questions are harder, and the rewards are bigger.
