Suntrust Park is providing Warriors with work

While thoughts of peanuts, crackers jacks and singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” often remind people of kicking back and watching baseball games, it brings a paycheck to mind for some North Atlanta Warriors. From cooking food to running ice cream stands, North Atlanta students are hard at work to ensure that baseball fans have a great experience at SunTrust Park.

To be sure, any job at the brand-new SunTrust Park offers a fun environment, but it is still a job. Seniors Noah Lampkin, Kevin Frey, Tyler McEwen and Sadrac Colin have what it takes to get the work done. Lampkin works at the concession stands and as a runner. He said he enjoys his position, but he says that his job is not always a walk in the figurative ballpark. Sometimes there a difficult customers, and there are times when much-sought-for menu items run out as games drag on.

However, there are challenging parts of any job, and there are definitely perks that come with the gig. McEwen, who works at a concession stand, says that the free food definitely doesn’t hurt. He also mentioned that the managers can be lenient, especially when it comes to tardies. “I’m usually not late to work, but it’s always nice to know that I have that extra time if I need it,” McEwen said.

Frey said that the job also provided excellent opportunities for people watching.

All four seniors who work at this sports venue are part of an organization known as Snack Attack, a food concessionaire at the stadium. Another significant benefit for these North Atlanta SunTrust Park workers is that they can transfer their stadium-entry privileges to the  new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, when baseball season wraps up.

“I’m really excited to work at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It will be a lot of fun, and the times of the games will fit into my school schedule much better,” said McEwen.

Think you have what it takes to work at the fast-paced environment of SunTrust Park? First, you have to be 18 years old. You also have to have to be disciplined and motivated. While most of the Warriors who work there had recommendations from friends who already worked at the stadium, it’s by no means necessary.

Whether their listening to a PowerPoint presentation in math or selling ice cream to the masses, the seniors that work at SunTrust Park are always on their toes. By operating concession stands and  working as runners, they play an integral part in fabricating the fun atmosphere that makes your trip to see the Braves an experience that you will remember for years to come.
