The North Atlanta basketball and cheerleading team strikes a pose together, in show of a unified region tournament win.

Basketball fever is breaking out among North Atlanta students since the Warrior men’s basketball team won its region with a convincing 76 to 58 victory over region foe Cambridge on Saturday, Feb. 10. The victory meant a cherished region crown in the tough 7-6A region and a trip to the state tournament.

The Warriors, 72nd in the state — and their rowdy fans — will open up their run in the tournament on Friday, Feb. 16 against Apalachee High School, which is ranked 227 in the state of Georgia.

The region tournament win was marked by scoring from many Warrior players. Dominic Ham led the team with 29, Messiah Thompson follows with 19 points, and Sam Jennings next with 10 points.

Senior guard Dominic Ham led all Warrior scorers with 29 points during the convincing win against Cambridge. The veteran of North Atlanta basketball play said he’s never seen a team come together as the current squad. “It’s funny because we didn’t gel at first this season but it’s changed and now and it just seems like we’re all in sync,” he said. “Things are really together now and I guess our recent success proves it.”

The Warriors will be in for a tough first round game, and hard work will be need to be put in by all 14 players to make it all the way to the finals and win.
