Class of 2018 Celebrates Next Destinations During “Decision Day” Event

Spel-Bound: Emi Douglas, Kourtland Tate and Armani Singh were excited to announce their intention to attend Spelman College in Atlanta.

On May 18 the school’s theater was a site of great celebration as the members of the Class of 2018 celebrated the school’s annual “Decision Day.”

This much-anticipated annual event, sponsored by the North Atlanta College and Career Center and the North Atlanta Parent Teacher Student Association, let members of the school’s graduating class go front and center on stage and share their plans about where collegiate studies will take them. Students and their parents and friends were on hand for the well-attended celebratory event.

PTSA volunteers were there to ensure the event was festive and well organized. The event also featured raffles where Class of 2018 graduated won items that will help make their dorm more livable.

The event was also marked by a significant moment when senior Adenike Makinde passed a torch to a member of the junior class to signify a changing of the guard at the school, when seniors will depart and juniors will rise to become the leaders of the school. “We leave behind a legacy of work and Warrior pride,” said Makinde, the 2018 editor of Invictus, the North Atlanta yearbook. “It’s our expectation that those who follow us will carry on the traditions that make our school such a special place.”

To conclude Decision Day 2018, school counselor Marc Genwright gave words of encouragement and also spoke toward the many collective accomplishments of the Class of 2018.

For members of the class — nearly 400 strong — high school academic journeys as Warriors are fast coming to a close. Bold proclamations about collegiate studies were yet another reminder for the soon-to-be-graduated that the once-distant future is a nearly an immediate reality. Decision Day, graduation day. Class of 2018: The future is now.
