Book It: Literature instructor Kaila Corbin takes pride working with her students, such as freshman Asia Abernathy, and teaching her classes to analyze new literature every day.

A teacher from Arthur Harold Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama is making waves in her first year at North Atlanta High School. She began working in these hallowed halls at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year and has already made lasting bonds with students in her class. That angelic face and cordial-mannered woman, oftentimes seen striding the fifth floor, is none other than 9th grade literature instructor Kaila Corbin.

Even in her first year, this teacher has established herself as an expert on English literature and has quickly become a favorite among students. She not only actively engages with all of her students, but also has many interests outside of the classroom. In her spare time, Corbin enjoys reading, writing, listening to music and most eminently, being with loved ones. She owns a pit bull named Krissy, whom she spends quality time with everyday. Another fact about Corbin that may be unknown to most is that she’s currently in the process of writing a book called “Notes for the Journey,” which is a non-fiction series of essays based off of Corbin’s outlook of life.

After having lived as an Alabama native in the city of Sylacauga, Kaila Corbin attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and received a master’s degree in Secondary English Language Arts. Soon she moved on to teaching. With five years of teaching under her belt, it’s evident that Corbin loves her job, which is what eventually came to her loving being a part of the North Atlanta community. “It’s a beautiful building filled with beautiful beings and minds inside of it.” she said.

“Being the light in helping students think” is an original quote that inspires her teaching and defines her experience with North Atlanta. Kaila Corbin can, with immense confidence, say that this is going to be a great first year just by taking a glance at her students. She loves to express her enthusiasm for literature with her preferred audience, her students. As long as she gets to enlighten those of all backgrounds through her zeal for teaching.

Apart from the knowledge in the classroom, one thing students have learned about Kaila Corbin thus far is that she has never dishonored what she’s deemed her aspirations for both her and her students, by being the light in helping students think.
