A Breath of Fresh Air: For sophomore Dylan Toliver and Warriors alike, the return of the A/B Day schedule is a big positive.

There are very few people that would say they genuinely like change. Change is hard. In the past two years specifically, students everywhere have experienced changes in all aspects of our lives, many of these being in school. Aside from the blatant reality of being on Zoom, the other notable change in learning was the scheduling. So now that we are once again back in the building and back to our A/B Day scheduling, which do students really prefer?

North Atlanta students are juggling eight classes a year, with our unique A/B Day schedule leaving us with four classes one day, and a different four the next. So what happened when students started school last year, worried about the realities of online learning, and realized – lucky for them – they only had to deal with four classes a semester now? Some were relieved, some were skeptical, but throughout the year, many benefits – as well as some drawbacks – became clear. Senior Rebie Benedict said that she personally prefers the A/B scheduling, but admitted that the 4×4 schedule did have its perks during the year of Zoom. “At first I was really opposed to it because it was different from what we had done in years past,” she said. “But as the year went on I appreciated it more because it meant that I had less classes to keep up with per semester.”

Most North Atlanta students have come to appreciate the way our scheduling works. Having two daily schedules instead of one may mean more work to keep up with, but it also means you have more time to complete it, and you get a respite from being stuck in too much of a routine. After all, following a year of being trapped at home, we all need to mix it up a bit. Sophomore Leola Hayal was another student to express their partiality to the A/B scheduling. “Since we are back in school for the first time in so long, it is nice to not have the same classes everyday and not see the same faces everyday,” she said. “It is good to do something different.”

It is clear that the North Atlanta student body is pleased to be back to the building, back to seeing students’ faces – the top half that is – and back to our beloved two day schedule. Although four classes a semester was a relief for those students who struggled during the time of computer screens and bedroom backgrounds, it is safe to say the 4×4 schedule will not be missed.
