North Atlanta High Dedicates the Linda Stevenson Theater

To honor Linda Stevenson, a longtime theater arts teacher who recently lost her battle to cancer, North Atlanta High School recently renamed its new theater to the Linda Stevenson Theater.

Stevenson, who passed away on Feb. 13, taught theater at North Atlanta for 11 years. The theater dedication took place on April 24, just before a performance of “Cabaret,” North Atlanta’s spring musical. It was one of the first musicals at the school that was not directed by Stevenson. Her family members were invited to the performance and the dedication ceremony. They were presented with a plaque that will be placed at the theater’s entrance.

Faculty from the school’s fine arts department came up with the idea of dedicating the new theater to Stevenson, and then sought approval from Dr. Taylor. After his approval, Atlanta Board of Education Member Cynthia Briscoe-Brown finalized the decision.

“She put so much of her life into our program. In a way, it was her life, the whole process of extending her enthusiasm for the theater arts. So we all knew that naming the theater after her was the best, most fitting thing to do,” said Velma Page-Jenkins, NAHS choral director.
