The Smoothie Debate Goes On at North Atlanta

There are important decisions in life, things that can really make a difference. For example: paper or plastic, Moe’s or Willy’s? Now for those of us here at North Atlanta, here’s a dilemma that really matters: should I go with a mango or a strawberry smoothie?

A distinctive feature of North Atlanta’s cafeteria is that it offers a smoothie bar where students and staff can buy freshly made smoothies with or instead of their lunch. The price for this flavorful slurp is $1.75 and there’s only one size.

There’s been a recent option to mix the two flavors and most smoothie buyers are now opting for this swirled route. What’s not been established yet is the name for this mixed smoothie. Possibilities could be “Mangoberry” or “Strawgo” but no official decision has come yet from Sodexo, the vendor that runs the cafeteria.

Until that decision comes, the raging debate will exist between strawberry fans and mango fanatics. “The mango is good, but I like the strawberry much better,” said senior Kelsey Perkins.

Strawberry flavor is not without its critics. “Who would get the red one? It’s actually gross!” said sophomore Leondra Freeman.

When the smoothie bar first opened during last school year, it was a big hit with students and staff. In the initial rush, students would spend most of their 23 minute lunch period waiting in line for one. Today’s shorter lines could suggest that smoothie interest at North Atlanta is waning.

“I think it costs too much and I prefer Planet Smoothie anyway,” said sophomore Caridad Robinson.
