Region Champs!

On April 19 the North Atlanta High School Girl’s Soccer team beat heated region rival Cambridge 3 to 0, securing Warrior’s third consecutive 7-5A region crown. After last year’s final four playoff appearance, expectations were high for this year’s squad and the region crown signaled that the team is up to meeting lofty expectations.

The girl’s regular season record was 12-3-1 and all games featured the squad’s high-powered offense. Over the course of the regular season Warrior players scored 68 goals and had an undefeated region season. Top goal scorers on the team were junior forward Emma Kurtz, sophomore forward Lizzie Mayfield, senior forward Claire Shea and junior defender Bonnie Shea.

Some highlights in the regular season were a 3-1 victory over Atlanta International School, a 4-1 besting of Forsyth Central and a 2-0 win over Richmond Hill, a competitive program out of Savannah. “There was an expectation this year that we’d do well and this team gets a lot of credit for meeting these expectations,” said senior co-captain and midfielder Caroline Saltmarsh. “Now we’re hoping that everything we’ve worked for shows up now in this even more in the post-season.”

On April 12, the team notched a convincing 8-1 win in its state playoff play-in game against River Ridge. The team’s April 19 win over Cambridge secured a first-seed spot in state playoff tournament.

The Warrior Women’s Soccer team is coached by Robert Bramlett and assistant coaches Mike DeMatteo and Tara Doherty. Team captains are Caroline Saltmarsh and Claire Shea.

With their outstanding leaders and a hard-working team, the girl’s soccer squad is sure to kick their way to the championship.
