Homecoming Week is “Out of this World.”

Every September, a sea of pink and black floods the North Atlanta football field. Cheerleaders and football players compete to impress their crowd with awe-inspiring moves and skill. Except there’s one twist: the football team consists of females and the cheerleading team consists of short-short wearing males.

For the past three years, the Student Government Association has sponsored annual Powder Puff games on the football field as a way to promote school spirit and to raise funds for SGA projects. Traditionally, there were two teams: one with grades 9 and 11, and one with grades 10 and 12. However, this year, there will be four teams, one for each grade.

Acting as the sophomore team quarterback, Lacy Thompson is confident that she will lead her team to victory. “It’s about time the underclassmen win this, and we’re going to win this,” she said.

Powder Puff is only one of the school spirit oriented days during the “Out of This World” themed homecoming week. Each day of the week is assigned a day to dress up: USA day, space character day, team sports day, earth day, and spirit day. All attire must meet the dress code, with the exception of hats or wigs that are worn on costumes.

“Powder Puff is going to be a great time. It’s interesting that the roles of males and females are reverse. Actually it’s really funny,” said junior Skylar Buggs. “I’m looking forward to the food trucks, too.”

Additionally, a golf cart decorating session will be open to all students to participate in before the game. The golf carts will be paraded around the track in an effort to show off each grade level’s creativity. Students are to report to room 8113 and talk to Dr. Deanna Hasty if they are interested.

The Friday after Powder Puff, a pep rally will be held in the gymnasium to show off each grade level’s school spirit. The Spirit Sword will be awarded to the class who showed the most spirit and participation during homecoming week. That evening, the homecoming game against Alpharetta High will be held at Grady Stadium, during which the homecoming court is introduced.

To conclude homecoming week, the most awaited homecoming dance will be held on Oct. 1 at the Atlanta Buckhead Marriott. Tickets are available for a pre-sale price of $5 in the bookstore.

The month of September is a month full of gears grinding for school spirit, so if you’re proud to be a North Atlanta Warrior, come and participate in a week full of fun and entertainment!
