As the new season arrives so, too, do the new styles. The transition from summer to fall is a big turning point in the fashion industry. The transition represents valuable opportunities for retailers and clothing lines to get updated styles integrated into the market. With a view toward one-upping their competition, designers have been hard at work figuring out just what will make consumers pick their items.

By speaking to North Atlanta students, it’s easy to arrive at their predictions about what the emerging fall styles will be, and about exactly what items they are looking to add to their own closets.

Recent interviews in the hallways and classroom revealed the name of retailers that are best positioned to attract teen dollars. Free People, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21 were among those mentioned. Competition between those stores is fierce. For example, Free People just came out with the Galloon Lace Halter Bra and now young women everywhere are clamoring for this item. Here at North Atlanta, you’ll spot this halter bra layered with a loose shirt or a jean jacket.

On the topic of trends, Sydney Scales and Maya Church, both juniors, had their predictions about this upcoming season’s trends. Both agreed that fall will bring darker clothes and more muted patterns. Plain blouses paired with simple jewelry will be “in.” The coming cooler weather will increase the need for boots and jackets.

Sophomore Cassandra Spiegl said that boyfriend jeans, flannel shirts, and large sweaters are beginning to come back into style. Where fashion is concerned, Spiegl’s own personal preference is to “keep it simple and casual.” She emphasized the likelihood that students will opt for easier-to-wear clothes as the temperature starts to drop.

Sophomore Josiah Brai offered his own opinion. Moving away from the simple to the more costly, he talked about high-dollar brands like Timberland boots, Polo Rugby shirts, pea coats, “Cavalli preferred,” and Black Infrared 6s shoes.

Like everything in life, the students here at North Atlanta High School had different opinions on what would be “in” for the fall. For some, less is more. For others, there’s a desire for over-the-top ostentation that gets second looks. Whatever their tastes, one thing is for sure: North Atlanta High School has style.
