For some, spring break is the week to take a glamorous vacation to the beach, the mountains, or even a trendy city. Plane tickets, stuffed suitcases, and neck pillows at the ready, many are gearing up for the second week of April to escape Atlanta traffic and piles of schoolwork. However, spring is a busy time of the year. Trips become difficult to work into schedules, and prices rack up, so if you’re taking a staycation this break, don’t fret! There is plenty of hidden fun in Atlanta.
If you’re looking to move your body and get some exercise, Atlanta has plenty of fun options. Puppy Yoga, located in East Point, GA, is a quaint studio where new puppies come in each weekend for quick and simple yoga sessions. For a little more than an hour, you can play with furry friends and experience relaxation. Atlanta also has great trails to walk, run, or bike, including those at the Beltline, Piedmont Park, and even Chastain Golf Course! They all have a perfect trail to follow, with convenient food shops along the way. “I absolutely love walking Chastain,” said junior Jarren Griffin. “It’s nice to watch people play golf, feel the sun, and chat with your friends!”
If you would rather avoid exercise and relax, the Botanical Gardens is a beautiful, calming place to appreciate nature. With intriguing indoor gardens, canopy walkways, and hands-on activities, the Botanical Gardens is an entertaining yet easy way to breathe in the fresh air of flora and greenery, bringing a nice reset from the scents of the city we so often smell. The High Museum is another institution that offers an excellent display of art, with a collection of more than 20,000 works and other special exhibitions. “I love to stroll and look at nature, it boosts my serotonin!” said junior Azuka Otuonye.
As spring rolls around, it’s time to spruce up your wardrobe! If you’re looking for a shopping spree, Lenox Mall is not your only option. A little outside Atlanta, in Woodstock, is an exceptional outlet mall, with sale stores ranging from Lululemon to Ralph Lauren. Ponce City Market is another great place to go, with a rooftop arcade park and various shops. Plus, the famous PopUp Bagels is right down the road! “Shopping is my favorite pastime, and I try to gatekeep the outlets because of all the great stuff!” said junior Carter Casey.
You don’t need a boarding pass to enjoy this break. Take some time to rejuvenate and recover from the stressful semester, and relish this week, summer is soon!
