Jones Sisters Rock NAHS Fashion World

As a new school year arrives, so, too, does the desire to approach any attractive newcomers to our school to make friends. But H&M bombers and windbreakers just won’t break the ice with newcomers Jasmine and Kala Jones. The sisters, a senior and a sophomore, respectively, took our hallways by surprise this year and together have really amped up the fashion competition with their extended blazers, distressed jeans and White High-Top Vans. The Jones sisters, who transferred to North Atlanta from Stockbridge High School in Henry County are now among the ranking fashionistas of our school. “We just have always have put a premium on how we look and if people notice this emphasis, then all the better,” said Jasmine.

The older of the two said she’s been interested in fashion since she was very young. “Even at the age of 5 or 6 my parents would catch me in my room changing my clothing, at least 3 times a day, Jasmine said.

It was a natural progression for her to introduce her younger sister to the world of haute couture. Students around are taking notice about what they are wearing.
Senior Elijah Williams, a leading fashion light at the school, has been among those taking notice of some fashion fellow travelers. “They are downright fabulous,” she said.

Why don’t all take the high fashion path? Many cite price and the cost of fashionable clothing as an impediment. Jasmine and Kala both said that while fashion can get pricey, it’s only as pricey as you make it and you don’t need expensive clothes to look amazing. “You don’t have to spend an excessive amount of money on clothing or accessories. There are certain luxury items I feel like I need in my closet but I will make sure to save up for it,” Jasmine said.

With fall coming, the temperatures will soon drop so jackets and outerwear will soon become de rigueur. For Jasmine, outerwear is a particular fashion forte. “I really invest in my jackets, and take my time finding the perfect ones. Jackets are an essential in my closet. In fact, I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect casual bomber,” Jasmine said.

Unlike her sister, Kala opts for exotic hair color. And it’s the purple extravagance that is her most essential accessory for all of her outfits. She said she’s a firm believer that it’s not where you got it but, rather, how you rock it. “From the start, my sister gives me my inspiration,” she said. “After seeing someone look so fabulous for so long, you have to try it for yourself.”

Both are very evangelistic about the benefits of pushing toward broader fashion boundaries. “It’s a great creative outlet and something that can be enjoyed by every age, gender or race,” said Kala.

As they’re pushing boundaries, they’re careers in fashion are starting to pick up. Jasmine recently secured a job styling for Atlanta talk show Your World Creflo Dollar and Kala plans to follow in her footsteps.

In what they say and what they wear, they preach this gospel: You’ll feel more confident and self-assured when you look good.

So, all you fashionistas, there are some new trailblazers among us. And to the entire student body, Kala and Jasmine Jones have just one question: “What’s your style, North Atlanta?”
