Warrior Chess Club Is Putting The Pieces Together

Has looking for the right club left you in checkmate? Look no further than North Atlanta’s first-ever chess club, where you can learn to play, hone your skills, and have fun with your fellow players. The school’s Chess club meets Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in Room (10161), the in-school domicile of math teacher Christopher Manson.

All students are welcome, no matter their chess skill level (or lack thereof). Current members range from grandmaster aspirants to those diving into the “game of kings” for the first time. “I started this club to give students the opportunity to show their gaming skills and be competitive in a safe and supportive environment,” said Manson, the club’s faculty sponsor.

Though currently small in number, this club has big ambitions. Goals include teaching the game to newcomers, letting veterans improve their skills, and eventually having North Atlanta’s best gamesmen and women pit themselves in against players in district and out-of-district chess competitions.
