Fashion Club founder. Morgan Daniel.

Clubs are a staple of any high school and North Atlanta is no exception. Whether it’s large clubs like FBLA or Students of Excellence, or niche clubs for aficionados of pastimes as diverse as Ping Pong and chess, there’s something for everyone.

But until last year, North Atlanta was lacking a club that would bring together students who dabble in – or dive into – the fashion industry and all things associated with high fashion; into this haute couture void entered student Morgan Daniel. Now a senior, Daniel proudly leads the club she founded, the North Atlanta Fashion Club, an organization for those devoted to high fashion.

She’s someone who enjoys fashion and is consistently ranked among the school’s top “fashionistas.” Her love for fashion led her to form the club but she also had a more enduring motive. “I wanted everyone to feel like they belong, even in the fashion world, and wanted it to be inclusive not exclusive,” she said.

She said the club is geared toward students who want to work in fashion or have any interests in fashion and wardrobe design. “We have every other club imaginable but there was nothing that matched my bigger interest,” she said. “Now there’s something I can be truly passionate about.”

After her graduation in May, Morgan plans on studying fashion and merchandising at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her current hope is to pursue a career in the fashion industry, whether it’d be a personal stylist or fashion director.

Over the span of a school year, the fashion club has made strides and has seen growth. From a modest start of Daniel and 15 others, the club now numbers around 25. Fashion Club efforts have not gone unnoticed and the group has even garnered the attention of professionals in the fashion industry. Through networking efforts, the club now has a sponsor, specifically the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. “It’s very affirming to receive this manner of recognition and support,” Daniel said.

The club also hopes to capitalize on Atlanta’s growing fashion scene. A big immediate goal is bringing about North Atlanta’s first-ever fashion show sometime in the spring. Auditions for the talent show will be held on Feb. 22, 27 and 28.

Fashion Club Meetings are held on Mondays in Room 10112 from 4 to 5 p.m. For questions, talk to Morgan or other Fashion Club members. And thank them for keeping the faith in fashion and for keeping North Atlanta classy.
