Save the Date: Juniors Hope Hallett (left), Anna Samuelson (middle), and Olivia Granot (right) have all booked their tickets to state.

Being one of the youngest and smallest teams at North Atlanta, the dive team is largely under-appreciated. With only nine divers that represent the entirety of Atlanta Public Schools, the close-knit group packs a serious punch and has some serious skill.

Year after year, the team has gotten better and better. Prior to last year, not a single diver had ever qualified for state for the Warriors, but junior Olivia Granot was the first to dive through this barrier in the 2021-22 season. Granot was honored to represent the Dubs, but she wanted more than just the qualification. She wanted to place in the top-20 at state, which she did. This year, she is hungry for even more. “For 6A, my goal is to crack the top-10 of divers,” said Granot, “Not only do I want to be in the top-10, but my teammates also want it. I want them to be there with me.”

On November 14, the APS team had their first meet against Woodward and the Dubs “took the dub.” Not only were they victorious, but they also pulled off the largest achievement in APS diving history. Not one, but three Dub divers qualified for state. After not having a single state qualifier ever, less than two seasons later, there have been three. “Qualifying for state is a big deal,” said senior Ryan Hohenstein, “Having three divers qualify is incredible and a major win for all of North Atlanta.

The season is looking bright for the girls. As three already qualified, more are on the road to accomplishing the same feat. Despite coaching themselves, the Dubs have strong joint goals to place well at state and win their meets. The young but strong team looks to capitalize on the unforeseen talent they behold. As the season moves forward, the Diving Dubs will look to capitalize and set more school history. “This will be such a great year,” said first-time qualifier Hope Hallet, “We all want to do well and there is a competitive fire on the team that has never been here before.”

Never getting the attention they deserve, the Divers are hoping to turn a lot of heads this year with their jaw-dropping performances. With a promising future, undeniable talent, and an unmatched level of competitiveness, the Warriors are on the road to greatness. Keep your eyes out as more records are sure to be shattered by this year’s Diving Dubs.
