The Warrior Women: A record-breaking year for Dubs sports

In a display of skill and spirit, the North Atlanta women’s sports teams have carved out a remarkable legacy this year. From the roars of triumph on the soccer field to the lightning-fast sprints across the track, these fierce warriors have exemplified the true essence of sportsmanship and excellence. As the curtain falls on another thrilling year, it would be remiss not to spotlight the historic achievements that have defined this remarkable 2023-2024 sports year.

Starting off with a huge milestone for the North Atlanta gymnastics program, three freshmen have shattered records and expectations by securing coveted spots in the prelim meet—a first in the school’s history. Leighton Snider, a StringRay Orange cheerleader, joined forces with level 8 and 9 Buckhead Gymnastics talents Vivian Weiss and Samantha Salzman. Their achievements not only mark a significant turning point for NAHS gymnastics but also signal a promising ascent in Region 6A-7A standings, currently ranking 11th out of 36 teams. With this trio leading the charge, the future shines brightly for North Atlanta’s gymnastic aspirations.

Similarly, freshman and first-year diver Leighton Snider also made waves by breaking both regular season and state dive records. Snider’s achievements didn’t stop there, as she clinched an impressive third place in the fiercely competitive 6A division at state. Alongside Snider, five other divers from NAHS made history by qualifying for the state championships, marking the first time in school history that six divers have achieved this feat.

Solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with, the Lady Dubs lacrosse team clinched their first-ever region championship. They also secured a spot in the playoffs for the second consecutive year, both marking a significant milestone for the program. However, the team must bid farewell to ten invaluable seniors whose contributions were pivotal to their success. Among them, Kenzie Crow, Martha Crisp, and Anna Samuelson earned spots on the All-Area Team 1, while Leela Langston and Emerson Crow earned theirs on Team 2, highlighting the depth of talent within the squad.

As the final whistle blows on this year of Dubs women’s sports, it’s impossible not to marvel at the historic milestones achieved. From smashing records to defying odds, these women have left a lasting mark on North Atlanta’s sporting legacy. As I sign off of covering Dubs sports, I see a very bright future awaiting these countless talented athletes. Here’s to the champions of today paving the way for the legends of tomorrow.

Go Dubs Forever.
