While sports occupy many, a common pastime for students at North Atlanta is hitting up their go-to wellness spots. Before many even hit the first snooze button of the morning, dedicated students have already been up since 6 am, checking off their daily Pilates class or gym training. Students looking to sweat, lift, or unwind choose unique spots across Atlanta to sculpt their very own fitness routine.
Stellar Bodies, a Pilates studio with locations in Buckhead and West Midtown, has built a reputation for delivering the ultimate full-body challenge- and junior Carter Casey is their number one fan. Their intense megaformer workouts create quite a challenge of endurance and strength, in which Casey swears by the “muscle-shaking” exercises. Reviews suggest that with the support of uplifting and motivating instructors at Stellar, the classes are made fun and highly anticipated. Whether she is booking an after-school class or a squeezed-in weekend outing, Stellar Bodies has become Casey’s favorite escape where she can zone in and push herself, walking out refreshed and rejuvenated every time. “Stellar helps me work out all of my stress despite the difficulty, so I highly recommend it after a long day or week!” said Casey.
A popular outlet for many is Yonder Yoga, an infrared hot power yoga studio with five locations just in Atlanta. Yonder, for junior Ro Dawson-Flanagin, isn’t just a place to stretch, but instead, a second home. After school and on the weekends, she works her front desk shift, checking in and helping fellow yoga-lovers prepare for their class. After finishing a shift, Dawson-Flanagin enjoys slipping into the studio for one of Yonder’s signature classes, Yonder Flow. The room’s dim lighting, the bustle of hard work, and focused energy are what she loves most. From easy downward dog poses to heavily core-focused classes, Yonder Yoga’s classes emphasize techniques, alignment, and control of the body, factoring in stability and perseverance. “The vibes at Yonder are awesome, come on in and sweat!” said Dawson-Flanagin.
A rarer find, ISI Elite Training has only one location in Sandy Springs, but it is a hidden gem. The gym focuses on group-led workouts that include small-group coaching, community, and high-energy sessions of pure exercise. Adelaide Middleton, a junior, enjoys their typically 50-minute workouts, ranging from different types, including upper body, lower body, core, conditioning, and full body. With equipment like battle ropes and kettle bells, the workouts are made interesting and simulate the feeling of a true sports performance. “It’s nice having a community of motivating peers to keep me going in the class and work my hardest,” said Middleton.
For students with busy schedules and big goals, NAHS students find that the right workout can be the perfect reset. No matter the class or studio, fitness is becoming a lifestyle for the Dubs.
