While many North Atlanta students are asleep at 6:45 am, our lady warriors are hard at work to stay in shape for their upcoming season.

The NAHS fitness club is in action every Monday and Thursday from 6:45-7:45 in the gym. These morning workouts, run by assistant girl’s soccer coach Tara Doherty, are for all female athletes at North Atlanta. “These morning sessions are for female athletes to stay in shape during the off- season,” said Doherty.

Fitness Club varies the workouts each morning to help the girls work on different aspects of their fitness. The main goal is to help the girls become the ultimate athlete in a fun and exciting way. “We work on strength, agility, fitness, and injury prevention,” Doherty said.

As participation continues to rise each week, the Warrior female athletes have seemed to take advantage of this great opportunity. “The workouts are a nice kick-start to my day,” said junior soccer player Mille Long.

Not only does it get the girls up and going, but it also allows them the time to focus primarily on their fitness, which is not always so easy to do when season has commenced. “It gives us time to train how we would during the season just without the ball,” said Long.

The NAHS Fitness club is a one of a kind program that many other schools don’t offer for their female athletes. It gives our athletes a great advantage when stepping on the pitch to take on competition from all over the state.
