For The Win: Strong play on the part of senior volleyball standout Chelsea Howard means colleges are starting to give her a look for contributions on the next level.

As October begins and the fall is well on its way, the North Atlanta Volleyball season is coming to a close. For most seniors, the 2018 season will be their last. However, for senior Chelsea Howard, talent, hard work and leadership have put her in a position to continue her playing career and compete at the collegiate level following a fantastic 2018 campaign.

Volleyball plays a major in Howard’s life, as she is constantly putting work. Whether she is attending practices for the Warriors, or working out with her club team, volleyball takes up most of her time. “My life basically revolves around playing this sport,” she said.

Going into this season, Howard had two goals in mind. For her as a player, she hoped to improve in all aspects of her game, from her serves to her spikes. As a member of the team, she aspired to help guide her team to the state playoffs. “I wanted to improve overall as a player and teammate in order to prepare myself to play in college,” Howard said.

In addition to being a talented player, she is very popular among her teammates. One thing that teammates, like senior Delaney Elder, admire about Howard is her combination of skill and unselfishness as a player, and this rubs off on the rest of the team. “Chelsea is so skilled and talented, but she never puts herself ahead of anyone else,” Elder said. “She is just a great leader and sets an example for the rest of the team.”

With the season wrapping up soon, it is safe to say it has been a strong one for Howard. Not only has she had an impressive season as an individual, she also helped the Warriors take home the APS tournament championship, a feat they handled on Sept. 29.

by beating Maynard Jackson in the finals. Her hard work and leadership in both practices and games thus far have caught the eye of several colleges. To ensure her the opportunity to compete at the next level, Howard plans on continuing to work hard in addition to reaching out to colleges once the season comes to a close. However, with several important games still ahead, Howard’s primary focus will be closing out this season strong for the Warriors.
